Enjoying Life – Do Something Different
Once in a while, I put friends to the task of letting me see there thoughts on certain topics. When it comes to enjoying life, everyone has a different meaning or a different way of doing it. So for today, I am going to share with you, what a recent friend told me about her thoughts on enjoying life. Enjoy! (As told by Anna.)
Believe me when I say I am the last person that knows how to enjoy life. After all, it’s easier to be miserable than to be happy and content and misery loves company. When my kids were little, I, like many of you, drove them everywhere. By the end of the day after taking care of all of their needs and doing chores, all I wanted to do was drop into bed ... and that was at 9 p.m. I always envied young colleagues that didn’t have a family and relaxed at home with a glass of wine. The only ‘whine’ I would get is…”mummy, he hit me!”
But I’m learning to take charge of my happy place. Enjoyment can be defined as many things and that varies from person-to-person. The dictionary says enjoyment is; pleasure, satisfaction, and indulgence. So, that means whatever brings you those things, should help you enjoy life.
For me that means exercise. I recently discovered Hooping. It’s a one hour class that involves hoola- hoops...but ladies and gentlemen, these aren’t your children’s hoola-hoops! They are large weighted hoops that you spin, and twirl around your body and lasso over your heads for a total body work out. I get satisfaction in knowing that I was able to complete the tasks, pleasure from the surroundings, and a bit of indulgence because I actually had an hour to myself! So, why not try something new. Grab your sneakers, and head outside or find a local community centre.
Someone once said how important it is not to take you too seriously. Laughter is after all the best medicine, so why not laugh at yourself without control...and never stop smiling. Go to a vintage second hand store and try on something from another era, play video games, or go to a karaoke bar.
You can’t go too far, if you are physically and mentally exhausted. Relaxation, renewal and rejuvenation are keys to a happier disposition. Yoga, time at the spa, a massage, watching a ball game or just spending some time by yourself with a good book, are ways to bring yourself back to that happy place.
Make a list of things you have never done but would like to try, and add that to a list of things you’ve done in the past and would like to do again – then list the top 10. It can be your own personal bucket list, of things to do to enjoy life!
