Looking At Life Differently

The other day I was gifted a book of beautiful photography from the surrounding area. Page after page of breathtaking images. Even though I have spent many summers enjoying the views from my home and our boat, I had trouble identifying all the places, and it really forced me to imagine everything from a different view.

You see, the photos were mostly aerial shots. A simple change of viewpoint can certainly affect even the most familiar of things. As I poured over the photos, I felt appreciation for the beauty that surrounds where I call home. It’s not that I haven’t always loved the views, but after you see things the same way over and over, you start to not notice them much anymore. A slight change in way I looked at it brought about the awe I used to feel when I first moved to the area years ago.

Today, I challenge you to look at things differently. Take a look at your life with fresh eyes. Remember what it felt like the first time you laid eyes on your partner, your child, your new house or apartment, your new car . . . you get the idea. How excited were you about the job you currently do? Do you remember why? Revive the excitement for all the gifts you currently have by changing the way you look at them.

I was just having this same conversation with a friend on the weekend, as we looked across my local creek at the embankment on the other side. I was asking how we'd look at it differently, or rather how we'd see things differently, even if it looked exactly the same, but we were in, for instance, Africa.

So much of what we pass by each day goes completely unnoticed and under appreciated, except by a few enchanted tourists, or artists - of course!

Great points!

Carrie - it's funny how we miss things that are right under our nose. Look at Niagara Falls. Millions of tourists flock there every year to see it, but if you asked a local, the majority of them probably rarely stop to marvel at the wonder.

Floyd - we should always trying to be renewing and rejuvinating our perspectives - however we can!
