Goal Setting - It's Not Just About Reaching The Goals
We talk about goal setting a lot at Getting To Someday. After all, how will you get to your someday, if you don't know what someday is? If you don't define it, you will never know when you get there. Thus, goals are necessary.
Goal setting isn't a pretty topic, and it's one that a lot of people will procrastinate on for what seems like an endless amount of time. Some people that's I've spoken with even stress about goal setting, not because they don't have a general idea of what they want, just because it's hard to put words to it, or they aren't really sure what makes them happy.
I'm not going to talk to you today about how to set your goals. (but if you need that kind of advice, I'd suggest you grab a free copy of my "goal setting secrets revealed" ebook)
Today, I'm going to tell you something you may not have known about goals and goal setting. . . .
It's not just about reaching the goals.
While that is, of course, an integral part of it, it is not the exclusive reason that you will find happiness.
Imagine you buy a great new book about a subject you've always wanted to learn about. You go home, crack open the fresh spine, and read only the last page of the book. You put it down feeling invigorated and happy that you've finished, and from now on you know you'll be able to speak about all the topics that were covered in that book.
Doesn't sound right does it? The enjoyment of the book comes through the learning, through the process it takes to get to the last page. So it is with goal setting.
Yes, you want to reach your goal and get to your someday, but half of the enjoyment actually comes from the "getting to" portion. Once you have your goals laid out for you, and start taking the steps to reach them, you will see that happiness lies in the PROCESS of reaching the goals as well. Taking time to align yourself with what you want to be in the future, opens you up to learn and grow and make yourself happier and more positive every day.
So what are you waiting for? Set the goals, and start working towards them today! They don't have to be huge monumental goals, they just need to be enough to motivate you to explore the amazing potential that you have lying within you. Don't waste another moment, start "getting to" your someday.
