Ah! What a Day!!

We’ve all had days like that – days when despite your efforts to maintain a positive attitude, everything just seems to work against you. Remember, while you can’t control what happens around you, you are always in control of your reactions to it, and how you deal with it overall.

When I find I’m facing a challenging day, I have a few things I do to consciously turn it around and make it better.

For me I like to find a relaxing activity I can get involved in. Maybe it’s a nice boat ride, maybe a trip to the gym, or even just going for a walk to get some air.

Sometimes, I will grab my journal and refocus my thoughts on the things that did go right that day. Even in the worst of days, there will always be good. Take time to find it, regardless how small it seemed at the time.

Help someone else. Do a random act of kindness, or offer kindness to someone in your life that isn’t expecting it. By taking the focus off yourself for a bit, and working on brightening someone else’s day, your mood can drastically improve.

Some people feel better after they have talked things through with someone. Sometimes just having a sounding board to listen while you work through the day will make all the difference. After you’ve gotten it out, you can move on.

It may take a few times to find what works best for you, and you may have your own tips that you would like to add – please do! The important thing is to remember that we all have days like that, and they can be overcome. Keep smiling!
