What You Didn't Know About Journaling
Most people tend to think that journaling is something only women do. This is not the case at all. Many men keep journals but they tend to call them something else. Journaling does not have to be done in a book either, now you can record your thoughts on your computer with software designed specifically for that.
Men do keep journals but they do not talk about them. This is as it should be, as journaling can be private and does not need to be shared with anyone. Most men would call their journaling record keeping. In all actuality it is; journaling is keeping a record of your thoughts, goals, experiences or feelings, if you want.
Women tend to write about how they feel, everything that happened that day, and why they think they feel the way they do. Most things tend to be about what they feel, which is not necessarily a good thing. Sometimes it is harder to go back and read things that have such a personal side and be objective about it later. If you are doing journaling as a way of keeping a diary that's fine, but journaling is so much more.
Journaling is now available as software to run on your computer that will interface with your other applications, now that is something interesting. Not only can you write down your thoughts, feelings and experiences but you can ad pictures, audio and video. Sounds more like a scrapbook to me, but for some people it is perfect.
If you keep your journal for examining your goals, or to help you gain clarity on your thoughts and ideas, than the software can be helpful too. Some journaling software has different templates that you can use as ways to help you with problem solving. For example, if it helps you to see things in the form of a spreadsheet you can use this template as a way to sort out your ideas or plans.
Journaling software also gives you the ability to search back through your journal or records by keywords. This could be handy in the case of what took place in a forgotten meeting. You can also keep work in a separate tab from home, or goals and plans can be worked out in a separate template. Who would have ever thought that journaling could have so many features.
Journaling your ideas, thoughts or experiences that happened during the day gives you the opportunity to go back and re-examine the situation or the idea that you wrote down. Trying to remember everything from a previous day or from a meeting last week can be difficult. Heck, remembering what you had for dinner last night can be hard. Journaling gives you the opportunity to clear your head while still keeping what you want to remember written down.
