Choosing to be Optimistic

Category:

We all know that our world is made up of many different types of people. There are the ones who like to stir things up, complain and always see things in a negative light. There whole life is filled with problems and they never seem to see the good in anything. Then there are others, who always search for solutions, believe there is something good in the situation and never give up when things get tough. They are always positive and try their hardest to keep their heads up, they are full of optimism. Although some people find it very annoying that there is always something positive about every situation, optimism actually makes life more enjoyable and allows you to see something positive in every situation. Too many people look past this and are always reaching for more, when there is so much right in front of them they should be reaching for.

Optimism for most is a simple question, is the glass half empty or half full. Those that see it full are very optimistic, they will take what is there and make the most of it. When you are optimistic, you could be very poor, have no education, or be in the worst state you could imagine, but you would still be happy. These people are able to count the blessings in their life and not take them for granted. If they are poor, they are thankful for the friends and family they have to share laughter with. If they lack education, they are thankful they can get a job at all and be able to put a roof over their heads. When life is at its toughest, they are thankful they are alive and healthy, or that they’ve been able to live a life most wouldn’t be able to. Everyone has something they can surely be thankful for in times of struggle.

Being optimistic is a state of mind that you must choose. You need to make a decision that you will look at everything from a positive focus rather than a negative one. The truth is, you will find exactly what you’re looking for in every situation. If you wake up in the morning and say today is going to be a bad day, it will be because you will find everything bad about it. If you wake up and say it will be a good day, then you will find everything great about it. Optimism allows you to look for all the good and find the opportunities that are waiting for you.

If you want to start being optimistic, you need to surround yourself with people that are positive. Those with negative outlooks will just bring you down and point out everything bad that can occur in a situation. If you do have unhappy people in your life, challenge them to enjoy the good things they have to cherish and point out why they should be happy. If you find they still can’t see the positives, ask them what they want to do to change the situation instead of complaining about it. They need to be proactive if they want things to work out for themselves.

One of the greatest gifts you can teach a child is optimism. It is easier to have this positive habit when it is taught to you at a young age. They will learn from example so make sure you show them that there is a light in every situation. And, although life is full of ups and downs, they will learn to always look for the lessons they should be learning. Through optimism and teaching others to be positive, we can all start living very full and happy lives.
